Airport Transfer and Transportation Information

There are several options for transportation from the Cancun airport. Private transport or a shared van are great options depending on your accommodations. Also, it works very well if you have staggered arrival times or dates within your group. If renting a car is not in your plans, or if you have an extra trip to the airport you would like covered, there are a few great options available. Below are links and information on some of our favorites. If you have any questions or would like more information, please e-mail us directly at info@akumaldirect.com.

Namaste Tours and Transportation
Miguel Trujillo is one of our favorite transport operators in the area.  He does airport transfers, and can also provide you with custom made tours to ruins, cenotes, and other local attractions.  He speaks great English, is extremely reliable, and is a font of lots of interesting information!  Contact Miguel by email namaste.akumal@yahoo.com.mx or by phone (+52) 1 984 125 4491 / 984 155 1648.  Miguel's rates are as follows:

Akumal Dive Center
Great ground transport and service, available to people staying in Akumal. A good personal service. Email them at dive@akumaldivecenter.com.

USA Transfers
Another good company for airport transfers, operating all along the coast.  They have both cars and minivans for different group sizes. http://www.usa-transfers.com/

Cancun Valet
A very reputable company for tours and airport transfers, and they also rent local cell phones for your use during your stay. http://www.cancunvalet.com/

When booking airport transfers, please give the transportation company your arriving flight number, and ask for meeting point instructions in the off chance that you do not immediately see your driver after clearing customs. Most agencies will provide an emergency contact or cell phone number. Always be sure to have a printed confirmation voucher clearly stating the time and date of your service, the number of people in your group and the price you are to pay the driver. It is generally the custom to tip your driver if you happy with your service.

ADO BUS
Another fantastic and economical option is the ADO bus that operates between the Cancun airport and Playa del Carmen. The buses are clean, comfortable, and have air conditioning. The driver will even load your luggage in the hold for you, although you will need to get it back out once you get to your destination. Tickets are approx MX$128 (US$10) at the ticket counter in Playa del Carmen, from a sales representative at the ADO counter in the airport, or on the bus itself at the Airport. The bus stops at both Terminals 2 and 3 and picks up at the northern end of each building.  Turn right as you exit the terminal building to find the bus stop. The ride takes about an hour.

Buses leave Playa del Carmen for the Cancun Airport about every 45 minutes to an hour, from as early as 5:00 or 6:00 a.m. until approximately 8:00 p.m. Buses leave the airport in Cancun for Playa del Carmen about every 45 minutes to an hour from approximately 10:00 a.m. until as late as 8:00 or 9:00 p.m. Of course, this information is subject to change.
