Akumal is not particularly known for its nightlife, although fun after dark can definitely be found here! Most of the local restaurants close around 9:00 p.m., but if you know the right place to look you can find people who stay up late.

La Buena Vida on Half Moon Bay is open until 11:00 p.m. and often later on the weekends. They occasionally have live music and dancing on the beach. La Buena Vida is also the site of the famous annual Halloween party.

Lol-Ha Restaurant has special entertainment a few nights a week; check their website for special events.

Tequilaville in the pueblo of Akumal offers good food and occasional live music. Frequented by a fun crowd, Tequilaville is open until 11:00 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

PLAYA DEL CARMEN is about 35 minutes north of Akumal, and certainly offers a wealth of nightlife options. Reserve a PlayaCrawl or PlayaParty in order to experience the best of the bars all in one night with special privileges included. Some locations to dance and party the night away in Playa del Carmen are:

CocoBongo provides a night full of entertainment with an excellent selection of music, great shows, and celebrity impersonations. The club opens at 10:30 p.m. and is on the corner of 10th Avenue and 12th street.

La Bodeguita del Medio is an indoor Cuban dance club and restaurant with live dance bands. They offer free Salsa lessons on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:00 p.m. and the best Mojito in Playa. Located at 5th Avenue and Calle 34.

Outrageously popular La Santanera (the after-hours of Playa) is filled with Kitschy decor, calaveras (skeletons) and masks hanging from the thatched roof above the second-story bar. After midnight the true partiers arrive en masse to dance until dawn. Expect a mix of international house music with a Latin influence, and a mixed crowd of locals and tourists. Located on 12th Street between 5th and 10th Avenue, La Santanera charges a cover charge after 11:00 p.m.

The Blue Parrot is a very popular spot for visitors to experience an eclectic mix of music. Pop and retro music is featured on the beach dance floor, and the Palapa Lounge offers a progressive dance mix that appeals to the Latin American and European customers. The palapa-covered sky bar offers dramatic views of the Caribbean and the beachfront dance floor. The spectacular Fire Show happens every night at 10:30 p.m. The Blue Parrot is located at 12th Street and the beach.

Señor Frog's is a restaurant and bar with live music on the beachfront next to the ferry dock. Experience the famous mix of thumping dance music, Jell-O shots, and frat-house antics. For excellent food, a great party atmosphere, and a famous souvenir shop, be sure to stop in at Señor Frog's.

The Reina Roja is an unusual boutique hotel with a hopping bar and rooftop pool bar area. Located on 20th Street between 5th and 10th Avenue, it is a unique place to visit.

Tequila Barrel is a sports bar and a great spot to drink a margarita and watch the daily parade of tourists. Located on 5th Avenue between 10th and 12th Streets, Tequila Barrel (true to its name) has over 70 different kinds of tequila to try. It’s a lively place, popular with tourists, and has authentic Mexican décor.

The Riviera Maya is definitely friendly to all different types of social scenes; if you are looking for a great gay-friendly club, try out Club 69 on 5th Avenue between 4th and 6th Streets.

TULUM is located 20 minutes south of Akumal and offers a different kind of nightlife option. Up and down the main street in Tulum (the Federal Highway goes right through the middle of the pueblo) are bars and discos that boast great music and entertainment as well as exotic cocktails and cold beers.  The nightlife scene is also hopping along the Beach Road in Tulum --- turn left at the intersection with Highway 109 (west to Coba and south to Boca Paila) and follow it for about a mile to the Y intersection. Various spots on both the north and south beach road keep the beach parties going all night with oceanfront dance floors and cool breezes blowing.

In town and along the beach there are plenty of live music shows from the amazingly talented locals, as well as incredible bands, musicians and performers from all over Mexico, Latin America and the world.

Divino Paraiso in the pueblo of Tulum (on the east side of the main road near Beta Sur Street) has reasonably priced drinks and a great DJ who plays a variety of ambient and dance music, as well as Latin and world beats. They are open seven days a week and occasionally have live music on Saturdays or Sundays.

Hotel Mezzanine on the beach has Friday night dance parties (during high season) from 9:00 p.m. - 2:30 a.m. with a DJ. Mezzanine is located 1.5 kilometers north of the 'Y' intersection and police casita on the beach road (turn left at the Y). This summer enjoy the Havana Nights Beach and Dance Party every Thursday night with live music!

The Sunday Salsa Party at La Zebra Beach Club and Cantinas includes an oceanfront barbeque, free salsa lessons at 6:00 p.m., and live salsa music from 8:00 p.m. until midnight. This is the place to be on Sundays, and it is where travelers go to meet locals and vice versa. La Zebra is approximately 6 kilometers south of the police casita at the 'Y' intersection of the Tulum beach road.

Mint Cocktail Bar is a fun and funky bar in Tulum pueblo/center that has delicious drink specials, fresh decor, a pool table and tournament, laughing gas balloons, Ladies Night, a great mix of music, and an upstairs dance floor. Mint is located on the east side of the main street (Highway 307) in Tulum between Beta Sur and Osiris Sur, near the HSBC bank.
