I've stayed in a number of different condos at Playa Caribe over the year. I love the property, the views, the little pool and the more relaxed vibe on Half Moon Bay compared to Playa Akumal.

This year, we stayed in Condo 11. It is on the top floor in the middle of the condo with the best views of the bay. The kitchen is well stocked, the furniture and beds are comfortable and it is colourfully decorated.

The location is just about 1 km to Playa Akumal and the Tsuuk Akumal Parque Natural, the main beach in Akumal and where you can use an approved guide to snorkel with the turtles.

Yal-Ku Lagoon is also just 7 - 10 mins walk away. If you go there, follow the blue signs, not the yellow signs. There are 2 entrances operated by 2 different companies. The blue sign is the original operator and it is much less expensive than the other operator - and they both go to the same bay.

Just remember, no matter where you swim, use sun protective clothing or reef-friendly sunblock to help keep these beautiful places beautiful.

This year, Half Moon Bay was wavy and there was a lot of sargassum all along the bay. Also, a lot of the beach has disappeared so it's quite narrow between the steps of the property to the water.

When there is no sargassum, it's easy to get into the water with flippers or water shoes and swim out to chunks of coral. While so much has disappeared over the years, I was happy to see more live coral while snorkelling this time.

If you're looking for a sandy beach with a sand-bottomed swimming area, Playa Akumal is a better place for that, but I love to snorkel so I prefer to be where there is coral and lots of fish.

Playa Caribe # 12 is like living on the front of yacht. Gorgeous view of Half Moon Bay. Very quiet. No bugs. Body temperature weather and went to bed listening to the gentle waves with a lovely breeze. No need for air conditioning.

The deck of this condo is spectacular. Every morning we watched the sunrise with our coffee and were astonished at the view. Great snorkeling right out in front of the condo. The pool is pristine! We loved our housekeeper Paty and the maintenance man Carlos. Augustin kept everything running wonderfully. Any glitches we had were promptly fixed. Highly recommend! We'll be back! We booked a vacation rental via Akumal Direct for a quick Spring Break vacation. It was wonderful. Everything is the rental was clean and prepared for our comfort. The staff was super friendly and helpful. I arranged a round trip pick up and drop off from the airport and they were timely and safe. We will definitely be staying here again.

The crew then asked to help with our luggage and packed it up the three flights of stairs for us with a smile on their face. The condo was spotless and well equipped with kitchen goods. The large balcony with comfortable seating was hard to leave. The sunrise from the bed and the sunset from the rooftop was magic every time. There are a handful of local restaurants that serve excellent food. There are also a couple of tourist gift shops. We rented a golf cart through the concierge service at Aukumal Direct and appreciated the ride to get to dinner and home again as the street is a bit dark and uneven. Although there are plenty of people who walk. The bay was a bit hard to access as there is larger chunks of coral. The swimming pool was refreshing. This is a lovely condo with great sea views. Everything was perfect except for the cookware which was old teflon, meaning toxic... But the staff was wonderful and everything was well groomed. We loved it.

Wonderfully appointed space. Probably the best view of the bay. Not far from eating and play. The concierge at Akumal-direct, David was fantastic. Anything I needed he took care of with haste. The only downside was that we were on the 4th floor and there as no elevator. But by the end of the week it actually wasn’t that bad. I’d advise for anyone traveling to Akumal that less is more. The whole area was wonderfully laid back. We are already planning our next visit.

We loved the small town vibe of Akumal. The central location made it easy to travel up and down the Riviera Maya and inland to various Mayan ruins. It's obvious that Half Moon Bay is breathtaking in Fall/Winter, but the bay was overrun with Sargassum in May. We knew this going into the trip and found plenty of non-beach activities to keep us busy. We still managed to swim everyday, whether in cenotes, lagoons, or the pool. The condo was clean, well maintained, and stocked with all of the essentials. We appreciated the housekeeping service offered at Condo Caribe. The only room for improvement was with the hot water; most days we had to let the water run for 15 mins to get warm or just take a cold shower. That being said, we would happily return to Half Moon Bay and Condo Caribe.

We were in #11 and it was stunning. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, we weren't told the seaweed would be bad this time of year, and weren't offered any compensation for it. The beach was unusable, and the smell was awful. Couldn't open the windows. I recommend this place before April.

We could not have asked for a better stay and beautiful location! This is one of the rare occasions where the listing doesn't do it justice! You feel like you are directly on the ocean - we couldn't imagine coming back and staying anywhere else!

We love staying in condo #11 four floors up. The views are amazing! The manager and staff was friendly and helpful. The condo is very comfortable but we missed having a tv in main bedroom. Tv in living space was too small. We hope to return some day. We love Halfmoon Bay.

My husband and I recently visited Akumal for the 1st time and truly enjoyed the whole experience. The views from this 4th floor condo are spectacular. The condo was very clean and well equipped with everything we needed. The only we had was with warm/hot water. Some days we had it, but most days we didn't. We contacted the management company to report the issues and was told to let the water run for 5 minutes. On many day, we waited 10+ minutes and no warm water. That would not prevent us from returning though. The photos do not do this pace justice. The proximity and variety of restaurants was a good mix and we enjoyed each and every one many times. There is also a little market right across the street. Everything that we needed was convenient. We would highly recommend giving this condo a visit. We will be returning ourselves again and again.
