You are here

Every family vacation has a day where somebody cries in a parking lot. It is almost always the fourth outing in four days. This day prevents that one.

Nobody gets in a car

Breakfast happens slowly and in pajamas. The morning is sandcastles, or the pool, or hunting iguanas along the wall, which for reasons nobody has explained is the most reliable entertainment in Akumal for anyone under eight. There are hermit crabs. There are pelicans that hit the water like dropped bricks. Lunch is whatever is in the fridge. Then the whole house sleeps.

If you want a change of scene without a plan

Walk the shore south to Jade Bay, about twenty minutes from Akumal Bay, where Jungle Fish Beach Club has a pool for patrons and calm water in front. Sturdy shoes, not flip-flops: the points between the bays are rock.

The argument for this day

Book a sitter. Child care can be arranged with notice, and one dinner where two adults sit down together resets an entire week. Reserve it, because last seating runs between 8:00 and 9:00 and a late table is not a given. If you would rather not leave at all, a private chef cooks in your kitchen and clears up afterward.

Or just don’t: put the kids down early and eat well on your own terrace with the doors open.

This day needs a good house: our villas and vacation homes have the pools and kitchens that make it work.

Make it yours. Tell us who is coming and what you are hoping for, and our team here in Akumal will build the day around it: the right guide, the right hour, the right boat, arranged before you land.
