Description

Casa Iguana by Akumal Direct Reservations includes a complimentary breakfast preparation from Monday - Saturday. Applies to 7-night reservations only. Cost of groceries and shopping fee are additional. Professional cleaning service is included 6 days per week. Beach towels and purified water are also included.

Casa Iguana is located oceanfront in between Akumal Bay beach and Half Moon Bay beach. The heart of Akumal, Akumal Bay is located an easy ten minute stroll from the property. Here you will find great restaurants, boutiques, dive shops, and famous Turtle Bay Cafe. The beach of Akumal is soft white sand and is an excellent place to sunbathe and swim. Especially for those with younger children!

A quick walk the other direction (north) will take you to La Buena Vida Restaurant and Bar and the beach of Half Moon Bay. Half Moon Bay is known for its excellent snorkeling. This is a great place to see coral and tropical fish.

Casa Iguana is situated on a large lot and that has two separate structures; the main two bedroom home and the adjacent two bedroom casita. The most wonderful features of Casa Iguana are the outdoor living and dining areas, swimming pool, play area for volleyball and an ocean front palapa with hammocks. This is the perfect spot for taking in this amazing place.

GENERAL LAYOUTCasa Iguana's main house features marble floors, granite counter tops and two ocean view terraces. The main house has two bedrooms. The master suite, located on the upper level, is furnished with a queen bed and is air conditioned. The master suite also enjoys a private ocean view terrace furnished with table and chairs. The guest bedroom on the main level is furnished with two twin beds, which can be converted to a king-size bed (specialized frame and connection kit for a seamless fit). This bedroom is also air conditioned.

Also on the main level are the fully equipped kitchen and dining area. The living area on the upper level is furnished with TV, DVD player, CD Player and Stereo System and also contains a double futon for extra sleeping. There is wireless internet throughout the property.

The Casita, which is just to the rear of the main house, enjoys the amenities of the main house, including TV, DVD, CD Player and wireless internet. The Casita includes a private living area, large and fully equipped kitchen and two air conditioned bedrooms. The first guest bedroom (accessed from the living area) is furnished with two double beds, the second bedroom (accessed from the first bedroom, or by way of it's own private exterior door) with one double and one twin bed. The two bathrooms are have been updated with marble and natural stone as well. Just outside of the Casita is large outdoor sitting and dining area. A nice retreat at the end of the day!

Casa Iguana also offers a charcoal BBQ grill, outdoor serving area and sink and adjacent patios with dining seating for up to 12.

Casa Iguana also has a large gated driveway which affords plenty of secure off street parking, or can also be used as a great dining/party venue for weddings and special events.

Stunning, secure and quite

The property includes 2 separate little houses (casitas) with two bedrooms and two bathrooms and a kitchen in each one. This worked well for us because we had two families with children and bedtimes were different. There was plenty of space and no difficulty with sleep patterns. The kitchen in the principal house could use a new stove and the sofa in the casita should be recovered in a fabric that does not absorb humidity. I would also recommend more towel racks for hanging wet towels inside. These were very minor issues. The grounds were stunning and that is most important because in a place like Akumal you want to be outside as much as possible. There were two outdoor eating spaces where all ten of us ate most of our meals. The grill didn't work, but we didn't feel like going to all that effort anyway. The pool was about 6 steps up, so the little ones were slowed down a little and we felt that was safer. The palapa overlooking the ocean and the starry nights was a wonderful place to meditate, have a happy hour, or watch the sunrise. In between the pool and the palapa was a volleyball space which the kids loved for playing with their toys and running around. The property was enclosed by a nice wall and gate which we were also thankful for because the children couldn't run into the road and it cut down on road noise immensely. We felt quite contained and secure. Dani and Patti were available anytime and were great cooks and problem solvers.

We had a great time!!! The house was awesome! Daniel (host) was the best! Anything you needed just ask him! Rent a golf cart! You can walk 5-10 min everywhere , But it’s clutch to have one! Everything was great!

Our stay was fantastic! Daniel was a great caretaker of the property and an excellent cook, we enjoyed several meals that he prepared for us. Patricia did a fabulous job keeping the house and casita clean and organized. Location was great, with a short walk to a very nice beach for our kiddo, and a great local restaurant. The resident hermit crabs were a fascination to our little one, who loved collecting them in her bucket and watching them before releasing them again (only to repeat the process several times a day, every day of our stay). The pool was well maintained, and a great afternoon respite for us. Air conditioning units were all in good shape and provided some much needed cooling off given the weather. The palapa was a wonderful place to sit and read and listen to the ocean. We could not have asked for more, it was a wonderful experience.

Our recent stay at Casa Iguana for a week of diving was wonderful. We have been comming to Akumal to dive for over 20 years and have stayed at many places. As our family has grown thru marrage. (no grands yet) we had 6 adults and plenty of extra room. Danny the host (They call him a grounds keeper but he is so much more) was a pleasure. Greating us when we left and came back, helping any way he could. Patrica the maid was a doll and really kept the place neat and clean! The location is wonderfulwith beautifull sunrises. and walking distance to most everything in the area. We will be back!

Well maintained property and good communication with property managers before and during our stay. Lots of space for our two families. and total of 5 children. We were well looked after. Daniel's cooking is excellent and Alicia kept the space tidy. Please note that an extra 5% of total is recommended as a tip for the staff. Staff were lovely and helpful. Daniel was particularly helpful in planning our excursions. Location is great - able to walk to a nearby beach and small convenience stores. Overall, a very relaxing stay . We would happily return.

What an amazing trip! We absolutely LOVED our stay at Casa Iguana! We can't thank Daniel enough for all of his delicious meals and snacks (especially the guacamole...yum!), for organizing golf carts and a fishing trip, his helpful advice and information, his patient Spanish lessons and just being so darned accommodating. Thank you Daniel, you are a lovely man!! We had rented a car, but with the easy and convenient walkability of Casa Iguana's location, and having Daniel always happily willing to arrange transportation for us, we found it to be an unnecessary expense. The nearby beaches, numerous restaurants with delicious food offerings, shops and groceries stores are all within very easy walking distance. Extremely convenient! Never for a moment did we feel unsafe in Casa Iguana or Akumal. Casa Iguana has it's own security (thank you to them for their long nights keeping watch) and we found the people of Akumal so friendly! Another big thank you to Alicia for keeping the house and casita so clean - we loved being greeted by her big, beautiful smile every morning. The house and casita were perfect for our group of 7. We loved the outdoor space - especially the large outdoor table for family game nights and morning coffee. We enjoyed spending time by the pool & relaxing in the hammocks by the ocean. We loved the house. The wifi, air conditioning, kitchen, pool all worked great. The pool was clean. The beds were comfy. The view was wonderfull. The beach is at about a seven minute walk away. Restaurants at about a 7 to 12 minute walk away. We didn’t have a car and didn’t feel we needed one. The caretaker and chef, Daniel, was wonderful. He cooked us three tasty breakfasts and two delicious dinners. Alecia, the maid, kept everything clean. Both were very friendly. We felt very safe walking around the streets and also in the yard and in the house. The place was quiet. We would definitely recommend it and hope to return.

Every year my family of 12 (6 adults/6 kids) picks a different place to meet & enjoy time together. This year we picked Casa Iguana in Akumal & it was our best location to date! Casa Iguana is a short walk to Akumal Bay & Half Moon Bay and if you just feel like relaxing, you can lounge by the pool or in the hammocks overlooking the ocean. There are places to be in the sun, or the shade & the air conditioning throughout the casita & main house kept us cool while inside. One of the most pleasant surprises was Daniel. If you stay here you MUST have him cook for you. Yes, it is convenient, but most importantly, he is an amazing chef & will treat you to the most delicious meals you will have during your entire stay in Akumal. He is also an invaluable source of information & not only helped us find a fishing boat/guide, he helped clean & cook the fish that we caught. Additionally, Alicia worked every day to keep Casa Iguana clean and in order. Our entire reservation from start to finish was straight forward & easy. Every question I had (& I had many) was answered quickly & thoroughly by the staff at Akumal Direct Reservations. If I could give Casa Iguana more than 5 stars, I would!

What a dream! We had 5 adults and three kiddos and this had a perfect amount of space. Daniel (on site overseer) cooked amazing meals and always made sure we had a cold cerveza available. The main house has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The guest house has two bedrooms and bathrooms as well. A full kitchen and seating area are in both the main and guest house. We ate all of our meals outside since it is so beautiful and has a larger table. Make sure to ask for tips on where to access the beach. You will need to walk 5-8 minutes to access the non-rocky part and some places charge you 200 pesos per person. We loved our time!

We really enjoyed our stay in Akumal Casa Iguana. Daniel cooked for us on most nights it was delicious!! Alicia kept things tidy for us she was wonderful! The property was fun, ocean views, Volleyball, and a pool! We enjoyed visiting it! The house has a lot of space and it's own compound. Sunrises are beautiful!

Great stay. We had two adults and 3 youth in the separate casita, 2 adults and 2 kids in the upstairs of the main house and my wife and I in main level bedroom. 5 stars for both Daniel the cook and Alicia the housekeeper. They were wonderful and provided all we would want. Expect them in your house often taking care of you. They had security service as well, and we never felt any discomfort. Organize your meals and remember there will be large quantities of food. You will front the $$ for Daniel to go shopping and cook for you. His ceviche he prepared from the fish we caught was really fantastic. This is a ocean front house but there is not a beach there. When we wanted beach time we took an easy walk north or south. Both places you need to get on the beach by buying a drink or snacks at the restaurant. I rented two bicycles for the week and found that very convenient to be able run up the the local stores. We took two scuba dives and found the reef beautiful. I would definitely recommend this place.

Daniel and Alessia were wonderful hosts making our stay quite comfortable. Daniel and his son cooked fajitas for our dinner one evening and even made margaritas. The beds were comfortable with air conditioning units in each bedroom. The only thing we missed was a nice beach. The beach behind the house is rough rocky terrain all the way to the water, so it is not good for hanging out. Loved the pool and everything else about the property. The house is located in a small community in Akumal within walking distance of several restaurants and shops. Definitely a good value for the money.

Our entire family enjoyed their stay at Casa Iguana. Daniel and Alicia were very nice and welcoming. The weather was perfect and the house was perfectly located, within walking distance from local restaurants, the Yal-Ku lagoon, and the Dive center. 
We enjoyed Daniel's cooking and also took advantage of the kitchen to prep a few meals ourselves. We spent a lot of time in the pool, adults and toddlers alike while cataloging all of the iguanas living on the property. We look forward to visiting Akumal again in the future.

Our entire family enjoyed their stay at Casa Iguana. Daniel and Alicia were very nice and welcoming. The weather was perfect and the house was perfectly located, within walking distance from local restaurants, the Yal-Ku lagoon, and the Dive center.

We enjoyed Daniel's cooking and also took advantage of the kitchen to prep a few meals ourselves. We spent a lot of time in the pool, adults and toddlers alike while cataloging all of the iguanas living on the property. We look forward to visiting Akumal again in the future.

Our group of 11 extended family members, which included 3 children under 5, stayed at Casa Iguana. The pool is perfect for the little ones. It was also nice having two kitchen on the property for storing all our food. The best part about this property is its staff. Daniel was excellent and made us beautiful dinners every night. The little palapa with hammocks overlooking the sea was also heavily used by our group. The property is showing its age a bit but everything was very clean and the landscaping is neat. The location is walking distance to the village of Akumal where there is great snorkeling or you can walk in the other direction to the lagoon (Yal Ku) for more of a fresh water swimming/snorkeling experience.

Casa Iguana is a beautiful well kept property and the location could not be better. It is a 5 minute walk to town (Akumal) and a 5 minute walk to Half Moon Bay and La Buena Vida. There are 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms and 2 kitchens (three if you include the outdoor cook area. The pool is nice and you can see the ocean. The outdoor dining area is tucked down a bit and protects you from the wind. The best part was our host Daniel, he is really nice (not too much English but can get by fine). Daniel is also a fantastic cook and made 4 dinners for us (you buy the food and tip him for all the work) and one breakfast. We could not have had a better time.

Our family stayed at Casa Iguana May 20th - May 27th, and we never wanted to leave. Danny, the grounds keeper and chef, met us when we arrived. It was heavenly. The main house and the casita were perfect. The rooms are large with lots of storage. Great bathrooms. The kitchen's (yes, there are 2) are very well supplied. It was perfect. Danny had pico and guacamole with chips ready for us when we arrived. Just what we needed. The landscaping is beautiful. There is a beautiful fountain by the large dining table. There are many different outside lighting options that really show off the place at night. Beyond the houses towards the beach is the private pool. It was always clean and inviting. We brought a pool volleyball net, so we could play water volley ball. So much fun. Beyond the pool towards the beach is the wonderful sand volley ball court. Great exercise and fun. Beyond this is the awesome palapa. It is a raised area with 2 hammocks and chairs that looks directly onto the beach. Amazing view morning, noon, and night. I wanted to mention Alicia. She is the house keeper, and she is a wonderful person. She kept the houses clean and always sweeping up after us. She was very helpful and kind. Danny did a wonderful job with the grounds and the pool. He answered all of our many questions, and he was very knowledgeable. The best meals we had while we were in Akumal Danny prepared. We asked him if he could get us fresh lobster and shrimp. He had to travel ways to manage this request, but the next evening he prepared fresh lobster and shrimp for our family. He served us at the beautiful outside table. It was absolutely wonderful. Another night he prepared us verde enchiladas and red enchiladas. Amazing... To top it off he baked a wonderful flan for dessert. 5 stars to Danny and Alicia. Thank you guys for all you did for us. I wish we could have stayed forever. O ... I forgot to mention the iguanas. We stayed here with an extended family group - there was plenty of space for everyone with 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms plus extra seating outside at table in garden and hammocks under Palapa by the sea that was always breezy and cool. Perfect location - staff was amazing. No Complaints - loved every amazing minute of it - memories made with family in pool, under palapa, on volleyball court, under stars, dining with Danny...It was a great escape.

We loved our stay. Daniel was the man. What a great cook and truly nice guy. Casa Iguana is walking distance to the beach, shopping and restaurants. There was plenty of space for our party of eleven. The layout is as follows. The main house: The upstairs master suite has A/C, a queen bed, ample storage space and large bathroom with two sinks. The space outside of the master suit has the best views, a TV and a double bed. The only drawback is no A/C unless you leave the master suite door open. There are two decks on the second floor, the larger connected to the master suite. The downstairs has a small dining area with A/C, kitchen, bathroom and a back bedroom with A/C and two twin beds. The casita: Both bedrooms have A/C, one has two doubles and one has one double and one twin. The main room has A/C, TV space for air beds (we brought a couple for the kids), a large kitchen with a breakfast bar. The pool is a modest size, but has both shallow and deep ends and plenty of room around it the several comfortable lounge chairs. There is a palapa overlooking the sea with two chairs and two hammocks. There is an outside shower and kitchen with sink and charcoal/wood-fired grill. I could go on and on We would definitely return when next in Riviera Maya.

It was a perfect place of beauty for our family to vacation together. The grounds were covered with gardens, plenty of places to sit, talk, eat, and have fun together. We loved the privacy, the beach, sunrises, and the many places to walk to (restaurants, ice cream, coffee, sandy beach). We are grateful to have found this place!

After years of visiting Akumal and usually renting condos, this year we opted for a villa. We couldn’t have been happier! Daniel and Patricia were wonderful as our on site staff.

We loved having a pool to ourselves especially during Covid times. The property was beautiful and the lot was nice and large. We loved watching sunrise from the palapa by the water and the gardens of the property were stunning. The men with our group enjoyed interacting with the iguanas and one day a Coati walked across the volley ball court while we were in the pool.

The location is perfect and safe. Very little Sargassum on the shore here due to a more rocky beach. The houses were well equipped and comfortable but I personally prefer a less firm pillow than what was provided but I managed just fine. I’m sure if I had requested a medium firm pillow the management wouldn’t have hesitated to provide. They are very responsive.

We used both houses for our group and still had rooms more if we needed.

We will return to Casa Iguana for our next annual visit to Akumal for sure.

We were a family of 6 who enjoyed our stay here. The photos and description are all accurate. It was clean, in great condition and the fans and ac were all in excellent working condition. The wifi was a bit slow at times but overall worked very well. WE liked that we could walk into town and felt safe in the area. It was super windy while we were there but that was not in anyones's control.

Daniel, the ground's keeper spoke good English and was very kind. We had him prepare dinner on the first night for the 6 of us and were shocked at the $175 bill. We spent $150 for groceries for the week and were not sure how he could spend $130 for the groceries for the one night. As a result, we did not have him cook for us again. We also had him call us a taxi one night. He quoted us one price and then the taxi told us a different price. He said his friend had to use another taxi company and that was their price. It was frustrating and he did not push to make it right.

Belle semaine passée ici. 2 maisons de 2 chambres chacune dont une plus confortable et plus clean que l'autre (plus récente ?). Restaurants et supérettes à proximité, la très belle plage d'Akumal est à 20 mn à pied, accès payant, 5 €, (passage par un hôtel restaurant) remboursé si déjeuner sur place

Great spaces, large property that you can have some privacy from others even in your own group! The main house is clearly nicer, but it was sooo nice to have 2 seperate living places for privacy, but still have great outdoor spaces to come together. Shop in Playa at Mega or other grocery store b4 coming up. Have a great time, don't miss La Buena Vida and Sergio at the Galleria. He paints outside his shop local scenes. Great guy. We ordered 3 paintings to be sent to us in the states. Tell him Barb and Manuel say hello. Wonderful family. We LOVE akumal.

Place was great. Lots of room for our guests and close to may restaurants. Also The staff on premises (Danial and Amilia) were very friendly and kept the property clean and comfortable. Danial cooked our fresh caught fish for us along with lots of other meals. Very good cook!

Y Alicia, excepcional, siempre atentos y dispuestos ayudar......las casitas muy lindas, limpias, cómodas y sobre todo espaciosas......pasábamos los días completos en la alberca.....
Mi único “pero” es que no hay playa cerca, la que había tenías que pagar......

Firstly, Daniel and Patricia are the biggest added value to this property. They are more of a concierge than a caretaker and maid, they made our trip perfect. If we wanted to visit a Cenote in the area, Daniel would call a friend and get us a deal on the excursion, deep sea fishing trip, the maid Patricia's husband was our guide and for significantly less than other fishing guides (we had 3 fish on the line within 10 min). When we needed our covid test to fly back into the US, Daniel made one phone call and the local doctor came to the house and performed the tests for us. The meals Daniel and Patricia prepared left us speechless, these folk are outstand in the kitchen and we couldn't have been happier with their attention to detail. While my friends and family were sitting pool side and swimming Daniel would occasionally come up to see if we needed any more beer, water, food, anything we needed he had for us at a moments notice. One evening we went for dinner at La Buena Vida, we saw a very nice looking bottle of Tequila on the bar shelf, after buying a few rounds and being blown away by the quality of the tequila we wondered if there was any way to purchase bottles to bring home with us. That evening Daniel phoned the distillery and the following afternoon the President of the Tequila Distillery came to the house and offered us a wide variety of high end tequilas to purchase. This isn't something you're going to find at any other property in Mexico. Daniel and Patricia made our 16 day stay the absolute best vacation we've ever had. We look forward to vacationing at this property again very soon. The beach is exactly as you see in the photos, limestone bedrock, you cannot swim directly off the property, but there are white sand beaches 5 min walking distance in both directions. The house is very quiet and fairly secluded, we seldom knew if anyone was visiting the surrounding properties. I cannot speak highly enough of this property and their staff. 6 stars!!!!!!!!!

All 7 of us had a great time and loved our accommodations. Plenty of space to be together, plenty of places to have some quiet time. Loved the hammock. Daniel did a fantastic job cooking for us and also doing all the shopping.

We looked for a place that would fit our family of 6 for a small, intimate wedding. Casa Iguana was that and more!! The layout is perfect with places to congregate or to have some personal space. The caretaker Dani is amazing!! He was always available and willing to help! He cooked some incredible meals and was the nicest person. Patricia made sure the property was always clean! I really couldn’t imagine a more perfect place for our family!!

We stayed at casa iguana for one week. I set it up to have Daniel on our first night to have nachos. He was ready when we arrived. Everyone was so impressed it was the best guacamole we had our entire trip. The houses were spotless and anything we did need Daniel and Patricia took care of immediately. The beds were comfy. The bathrooms were stocked with basic toiletries. Filtered bottle water in all bathrooms and both kitchens. The outdoors was beautiful. A few large iguanas to see. A beautiful view. It truly was a dream vacation. 5 min walk to town 5 min walk to beach. I look forward to a return visit.

Exceptional experience. When vacationing in Mexico choose a location that's scenic and safe, but also close enough to site seeing adventures. More importantly choose a good host with and incredible local staff. Daniel was the resource my family needed, and Patricia was at the ready. Couldn't be happier with the accommodations, especially considering we were lucky enough to find it after choosing to leave our first location. Try Daniel's guacamole!

We only gave 4 stars for the satisfaction with the property's general condition because the Air Conditioning units were not great. One of the ones in the smaller casita barely worked at all and two others weren't all that great in that they didn't actually cool things down enough. The best one was in the downstairs bedroom in the big house.

As far as the cleanliness of the property, there was a party there right before we checked in and there were some remnants including broken glass by the pool and cigarette butts in the gardens and beach. Also there were some weird stains on the wall behind the television in the smaller casita. Manuel did a great job overall though and was very friendly and helpful as was the housekeeper. One other thing was that one of the fresh water jars (for tooth brushing) in the bathroom of the smaller casita was broken and the other ones were not refilled during our stay. Other than that the maid service was excellent. What a special place, we hope to be back soon!

We took a 3 generation family vacation to Casa Iguana. the Houses and grounds gave everyone what they were looking for fron the 4 year old to the 70 year old. I highly recommend this quaint, beautiful, functional property (although there are acouple of "fall points" where a small toddler could fall through the pool area railing). We will be going back as often as we can!

Three couples shared this rental for annual trip to escape the cold. The property is ideally located near town, La Buena Vida bar, and Yal Ku lagoon--you can't get much better than that in Akumal. The outside spaces are unbelievablely beautiful and provide an opportunity to enjoy three distinct spaces: the pool; the palapa complete with hammocks; and the garden area. The homes are well kept and the staff is friendly and helpful. The beds were very hard for my body and I ended up sleeping on my pool raft the last two nights to spare my body the agony of springs protruding into my ribs. Based on my highly unscientific survey, this house is one of the best deals in Akumal.

Home was nice but Casita has a bug issue. Beach towels would have been nice and shower downstairs barely works so should be fixed. Looks like there used to be a in the downstairs room and casita room but it is gone now. Location is great, manager was great and was the on-site staff.

This villa was fantastic!!!! We have stayed in 3 other places in Akumal and this one is now our favorite.

The property is like your own private resort, the staff was friendly and very helpful and we fell in love with Akumal--it was great to walk to restaurants, grocery store, beaches and snorkeling sites. We arranged for an arrival-day dinner - what a treat after our travel day! It was so pleasant, we did it again the night before we left! The staff couldn't have been more agreeable, and kept the place spotless. If we couldn't find the information we needed in the house book, Roger, Manuel or Juany had the answer. We enjoyed having separate buildings so early risers and night owls could avoid bothering one another. Look for the nightly parade of hermit crabs - fascinating!
