Description

La Iguana Condominiums by Akumal Direct Reservations are located at the north shore of Half Moon Bay offering expansive views of the Bay and the Caribbean Sea. The snorkeling at this end of the bay is some of the best in the area and is easily accessible.

Unit #4 has a King bed with doors that open into the condo with private bath and AC in the bedroom. There is now wireless internet available inside!

Guest of La Iguana enjoy a private setting, just off the beaten path and within an easy walk to Yal-Ku Lagoon. Two swimming pools, including a large pool with lap lane in a garden courtyard setting, offer the perfect chance to cool down and refresh yourself after a day of exploring the Great Maya reef or ancient ruins.

We loved staying at La Iguana Condos. The location is ideal on Half Moon Bay as the shoreline is protected from the current that brings in the sargassum. The condo itself is wonderful with a great kitchen and a breathtaking view. It is accurately depicted in the photos. Communication with Akumal Direct is excellent. They are so helpful and prompt in their responses. We had a wonderful time and definitely plan to return!

Lovely place hidden in Akumal. The views from the flat are amazing! Snorkeling gear available to dive and discover the wonders under the ocean in front of you. I highly recommend renting a car to give you the flexibility to drive around as the place is located at the far end of the bay - and make some groceries shopping too. Staff onsite is really friendly. We were unlucky during our stay, there was lot of power outages, but it did not really affect our trip. Overall great experience and relaxing !

Nice place, well kept, great views and sounds from the ocean below. Easy walk to a few different restaurants, or go over to the village across the highway for real Mexican food. The condo was towards the end of the street with little traffic. Very quiet at night and during the day. The condo was on the 2nd floor, pools accessible, beach there with shade and chairs. just up the road outside Half Moon Bay there is the park with more snorkeling/ scuba, and opportunities to hire a guide.

I chose this location specifically to be far noise and people-- and it did not disappoint. I greatly enjoyed having the beach and ocean mostly to myself. The condo is adorable and very clean. The hosts assisted in transport to and from the Cancun airport and with getting a massage and facial (the therapist came to the condo). The kitchen has all of the cooking utensils/equipment you might need, but there wasn't any coffee :-(. Overall, it was a great experience. I would definitely stay again. **Note**: This is a residencial community and there are only a few stores and restaurants within walking distance. Consider paying a little extra to stop at larger grocery stores on the way down if you will need more supplies. Also, you may want to consider renting a bike, golf cart, or car if you want to do any exploring.

“An excellent option for those wanting to be sequestered before sparkling water and a gorgeous view. The staff are very friendly and respectful and their daily cleaning make for a very comfortable stay. We made very good use of the well-equipped kitchen. I suggest the owner install blinds on the windows adjacent to the TV so that it can be enjoyed more easily during daylight hours. It also is time to invest in a new set of bed linens as the current ones are loose fitting and inclined to slip during the night.”

La Iguana #4 and the whole team at Akumal Direct are the best!! The view is incredible, the maid (Ana) was very kind and willing to work with our "work remotely" schedule, and Kat of Akumal Direct found us a place to do laundry when we were all out of options :) from our window, we could see turtles and a ray swimming through the Bay!! The snorkeling and private beach really cannot be beat. Really, we loved our stay here and would like to come back someday when all the corona crazy has died down. Thanks so much everyone!

We enjoyed our stay. It is a nice location on quiet Half Moon Bay. The views of the ocean our spectacular. The place was clean and comfortable. We felt very safe here and the area feels much more intimate compared to Cancun. Check-in was easy and we had very good communication with the hosts.

An amazing place to relax and enjoy Half Moon Bay. Great snorkeling just steps outside, excellent beachside relax spots, cool iguanas sunning themselves with you. Take a bike down to the corner store, stock up on Rum, juices, and ice, and just hang out! Everything is very close by car, bike, or golfcart, including Akumal Bay beaches, tours, restaurants, Yal-Ku lagoon, all without ever getting in a car. Hector was an amazing host and helped us out in many ways. We'll be back!

In my opinion, this condominium complex has the nicest beachfront (shared with La Sirena) and is the best point of entry for snorkeling on Half Moon Bay. The snorkeling was fantastic. Note that you definitely need water shoes for entry. The water in Half Moon Bay is shallow and you can stand in most places, and throughout the bay. We picked this place for the accessibility for snorkeling and were not disappointed. The weather at the beginning of our trip was unusually windy, but calmed down and the clarity of the water improved to excellent as well. We saw lots of colourful fish, reef squid and stingray.

Our arrival at the beginning of January proved to be quieter than we would have liked - however there was always beachfront lounger/palapa and pool chair space - often completely free of other people. The pools are very cool and refreshing too.

The condo seemed a bit tired and in need of minor maintenance, however Akumal Direct, the condo staff and even the owner responded immediately. The oceanfront view from the condo is stunning - loved waking up to the view every morning. The condo itself has, in my opinion, a design flaw - the bedroom has 2 windows, one in the condo stairwell and the other in the entryway of the neighboring condo - people moving through literally sound like they are right beside the bed (and they are!). The bedroom would have been better off without any windows. The occasional noise can be hidden by the sound of the bedroom air-conditioning unit and we used it every night, just for that reason.

This location, on the north tip of Half Moon Bay, is relatively remote - there are only a few restaurants nearby - we really enjoyed Que Onda! The food was amazing!

Would recommend picking up groceries on the way to the condo.

Don't feel like a car is necessary.

The staff are friendly, but speak little English. I've read other reviews saying that the staff are not friendly - this is simply not true. Try starting any conversation with a personal enquiry like "hello, how are you, it's a beautiful day" as opposed to just asking for things. We found this went a long way when talking to local people in the area. It's harder to remember to do this if you don't speak espanol!

Amazing view! Located at a quiet corner of Akumal, this place has a breathtaking view of the ocean and a private beach at the doorstep. The private beach has comfortable chairs and there are very few people. The beach has no seeweed issue at all, unlike other beaches in the area. The room is large and clean and the staff is very hospitable. I rented a bike to get around and the Akumal village is very beautiful for bike-riding.

Walk into the condo an realize the pictures do not do it justice. Magnificent! ...and all of the concerns about seaweed do not apply. The unique corner of bay steers it far away. The security at the bay entrance and throughout the complex is excellent. Hector's assistance in getting bags and groceries into the condo. Perfectly manicured beach and grounds. Things I would do again: Stop by Walmart (Playacar) en route and stock the fridge/ pick up water shoes. Dinner or drinks every night at La Lunita. Hire Ahmed (at La Lunita) to do an every other day excursion (cenotes, ruins, Cozumel, hidden restaurants). Drift-snorkel every day from the private beach. Stayed at a four-star resort near the airport the last night in Mexico....but longing to be back at La Iguana, Akumal.

Accurately represented, clean, right on the water, air-conditioning works beautifully in the bedroom and the fans are fine for during the day. Bed was comfortable. We weren't there long enough to use the kitchen but it looked as if all the necessary elements were there. Only challenge for us was we didn't have a car (too many reviews of police corruption and them stopping you in order to take bribes which made us hesitate), so the distance into town was a little longer than we thought. The taxi's have prices posted that are crazy expensive (200 pesos or about $11 for under 2 miles and 5 minutes) so if you can rent a bike for $8 for 24 hours, that helped in terms of transportation. Just keep in mind they don't have lights, we used our cell phones as lights to get home. Would definitely rent again and maybe rent a car locally. The problems seem to be mostly around Cancun.

We loved La Iguana (unit #4), would absolutely return. Two pools, private beach access, friendly and helpful staff, and a killer view from the condo - can't really go wrong. We rented bikes for $8/day and bicycled to town each morning for breakfast, Turtle Bay is great and has incredible espresso. A handful of other good bars, restaurants, and convenience stores are walking distance from the condo, otherwise it's a pretty quiet, snoozy part of Akumal (which we loved). Snorkeling off the La Iguana beach is pretty great but rocky and shallow, watched a lot of people walk all over the coral which was sad. Overall a great spot to spend a few days relaxing, eating tacos, and soaking up some sun.

La Iquana #4 is a little slice of paradise. There is something exquisite about being beachside and time and time again we are happy to steer clear of the resort life and choose a place such as this. It was exactly as depicted in the photos. The ocean couldn’t be closer and many days we were the only ones in the pool and we had the palapa of our choice. The community of Halfmoon Bay is more than we expected and we enjoyed all the local restaurants and even took advantage of RivieraMaya grocery delivery. It’s a sleepy ish community that felt like home from our first night. The condo was well equipped and we look forward to our return!

Such a great spot, away from most of the hustle bustle of Akumal, very close to Yalku Lagoon, La Buena Vida , and some other top end restaurants. Snorkelling is amazing. Very good value

11 days right on the beach! We love this area of Akumal. This building is very well managed. Hector and the crew work so hard to keep things clean and to check in with guests to help out with anything!

Overall it was very good. Loved the location. The view was incredible, great location for snorkeling entry, loved the 2 pool option, and the management staff was very friendly and helpful. It would have been nice if the windows had been cleaned.

Incredible View of Half Moon Bay!! Property clean, well organized, kitchen well stocked. View was amazing! Just around the corner from several restaurants, Ya Kul Cenote in very quiet low traffic end of Akumal Neighborhood. Great little beach area infront of condos. Easy water access, bring your water shoes, its a little bit of a rocky start. Neighbors were friendly, staff helpful - a fantastic experience.

This is our 5th time staying at Half Moon Bay and Akumal still remains a tranquil and scenic location to either stay for a while (lots of great restaurants within walking/biking distance) or to use as your base to explore the rest of the Mayan Riviera and Yucatan Peninsula. La Iguana offers great snorkelling right off the back yard as well a quiet beach front for chilling. We love to rent a car to make sure we visit some amazing cenotes that are close by as well as several Mayan ruins within doable driving distances. Visit and then come back for more and more. Paradise never gets boring!

The property was well maintained. Location was great as we had no Saragossa grass in front of our beach. The unit is dated but the view is spectacular. Would recommend if you can handle air conditioning in bedroom only.

Awesome views, amazing snorkeling, no huge piles of sargassum, friendly people, full kitchen for any meals, walking distance to restaurants and a small grocery store and Yal-Ku lagoon, both a cool and a heated pool. Suggestion: go to the smaller south entrance of Yal-Ku (Snorkeling and Lagoon) and NOT the north (Riviera Maya). You can still swim in the same entire lagoon area. But the snorkeling is actually better at the south end anyway. No food is served at the south end, but you can bring a lunch, walk back to your condo, or walk to Morningstar for lunch.

we were very happy with our accommodations. The only problems were the oven did not work, but it was replaced the day before we left so the next tenants should be happy. One other thing was there was no way to plug up the sink to wash dishes. Otherwise we loved it.

We own this property, so we're a little biased! But, what we liked about it to make us want to own there were: 1) location - close to lagoon, and on Half Moon Bay, but secluded at end of the road, and is very quiet, without traffic or people walking past on the beach 2) Amenities - the two pools are great, and the beach area is relaxing and welcoming. We have appreciated that addition of the gym and the convenience store as well. 3) Privacy. No one is driving past our property on their way to other places, and no one is walking past you on the beach all day long. The property is big enough that you can enjoy relaxing on the beach and not be surrounded by others, or be subjected to listening to their conversations or music when you would rather have quiet and solitude.

We spent a little more than a month in Mexico starting at the Grand Mayan Riviera and ending at a private house on the beach on Isla Mujeres. We only spent a week at Akumal La Iguana Condominiums Unit #4 on the north end of Half Moon Bay, but it was our favorite place on our whole trip. We loved everything about La Iguana and the owner was nice enough to even leave his internet password so that we could use the internet. It had the beach, the view, the furnishings, everything. The owner even left snorkel equipment there for our use.

Unit 4 bedroom is in a bad place, lot of noise from the next unit and stairs. This time there was a lot of kids at the pool.

The location was perfect for the Mayan Ruins, Xel Ha, w/other Adventure Parks. The management was excellent, helpful in every way. Like my family. Snorkeling in front of the condo & at the Lagoon in the back was amazing & perfect.

After along tiring and somewhat stressful journey from Oregon, we arrived in Paradise. I appreciate d the measures that Akumal has in place for Covid. It felt safer than the states. Our condo was beautiful and the snorkeling was peaceful. Sad to leave but I live Oregon. Plan on going back next year.

This was a great location to be away from the seaweed. Had great snorkeling right out our door.
The only things that we didn't like about the condo were minor, but did effect the feeling of being cared for. We only had one very small bar of soap and one packet of shampoo upon arrival and were never given any more even though we ran out. The two wash clothes were only changed out every three days. In fact, they finally took the two dirty and left one clean. Most condos do provide enough coffee and condiments for the first morning. There was none. We even had to buy a box of filters. Otherwise the condo was very clean and comfortable. The outside maintenance men were friendly and kept the property spotless. We'd stay here again, just maybe in a different unit.
