Description

Luna Azul Condominium, Unit #5. This third-level unit offers exceptional views of Half Moon Bay and the Caribbean beyond. The beachside terrace is a perfect place to watch the sea turtles feeding and playing in the bay, schools of tropical fish, osprey, pelicans, and other marine wildlife. The breezes come off the bay and all is quiet and private.

The unit offers a fully equipped kitchen with a new cooktop/oven, coffee maker, and all appliances that you may need to prepare your own meals or enjoy snacks and cold drinks on the beach. Off of the kitchen is the dining area with seating for six and a bar top for 4 more. From the living and dining areas, you can enjoy the view of Half Moon Bay through a wall of windows and sliding doors leading to the beachside terrace. The terrace is furnished with a beautiful granite bar and chairs for you to enjoy dinner and drinks with the breezes and sounds of the surf.

To the rear of the unit are two bedrooms. The master bedroom is spacious and private with a large master bath and king bed. The guest bedroom is furnished with one double bed and one single bed and enjoys a private bath. AC in bedrooms. Ocean views from all rooms in the condo, including the master bathroom.

Luna Azul is one of our favorite condominium properties. It has a great central location within walking distance of Akumal's Yal-Ku Lagoon, restaurants, and other services. The management here is excellent and always takes great care of our guests.

During the summer months, south winds may bring Sargasso Seaweed to some beaches throughout the Caribbean, including the Riviera Maya. Please know that our onsite teams work very hard to ensure the best possible beach conditions for your stay. As a consideration, you may also see special seasonal discounts applied to during the summer months.

The Riviera Maya is full of natural beauty, places to explore and opportunities for outdoor activities. We have a great list of activities and adventures completely unaffected by the arrival of sargasso that we would love to share with you. The appartment is spacious and very clean. The view is amazing. BUT it is a pretty windy bay and it has a lot of “sargass” elk. We could not swim. It was bit disappointing for that. A nice restaurant on the beach, 5 min walking.

I think this was the most up to date condo in the Luna Azul building nice decor and updated bathrooms etc.. The view was nice 3rd floor so the palms were in view along with the water. Everything was in working order/ air conditioning, kitchen appliances etc.. Great management Adrian was a wonderful manager Akumal Sunshine. No ants or bugs in the unit. All guests were quite at the appropriate times. King bed was comfortable. We didn’t use the guest room. Good snorkeling in Half Moon Bay right off the shore. All in all very nice stay

This apartment was dreamy. Comfortable for our family of four with teens, spotless and cleaned daily. You can order groceries to be delivered before your visit. Gorgeous view and sound of waves, right on a beach on a shallow bay with good snorkeling. We had three days of great weather- not much wind or seaweed, and two days with more wind and seaweed (enough that getting in and out would be rough even as strong swimmers). On the days with good weather, we walked north on the beach and then swam to the northeast corner of the bay for great snorkeling... so many amazing fish! There are great opportunities to swim in cenotes, visit Mayan ruins, visit a lagoon, so there's plenty to do if you get a couple of days with seaweed as we did.

We stayed at this wonderful location for one week in January and returned shortly after for two months. The linens and furnishings and kitchen are good quality, absolutely everything you would need for a great beachfront location. The staff was great and took care of all requests promptly. The views and privacy are great. Our second stay was during their Sargasm season and there was a good deal on our beachfront which Amy made us aware of before our booking. It was not a problem for us because there were beaches nearby where it was not a problem. There are several great restaurants and amenities very nearby. We will definitely come back.

Ocean views from every room. Full kitchen with everything we needed. Comfortable bed, plenty of storage, snorkeling gear to borrow and blow.dryers in each bathroom! There is great snorkeling right from the beach. All the comforts of home while being in the carribean. Several great restaurants within walking distance too.

What a wonderful place to spend more than just a few days in Akumal! We enjoyed our first week so much, that we ended up extending our stay. It really was our happiest time in Mexico and we can not recommend the team at AkumalDirect enough. They were very helpful during our stay and communication was very smooth. Our stay at Luna Azul enabled us to spend our days close to the ocean, explore the cenotes, enjoy the local restaurants, and even dive some of the most beautiful sights of Mexico. While part of our stay was definitely restricted due to the outbreak of the Corona virus, we felt safe in Akumal and had everything at hand to “self confine in paradise”. Unlike nearby, more touristic places, like Tulum and Playa del Carmen, Akumal attracts nature lovers and a slightly older crowd, like retired people, couples and families. The local community makes sure to keep Akumal the beautiful and tranquil place it is, where even while out snorkeling you might catch a glimpse of a turtle. Come to Luna Azul to relax and enjoy the beauty of simplicity. We hope to come back soon!

Great condo, great location in a very quiet and safe neighborhood. Several restaurants within walking distance (Que Onda is some of the best Italian food we've had anywhere!). Half moon bay is very good for snorkeling, just bring your water shoes as the water entry due to the close proximity of the coral reef it is rocky in spots.

Perfecto place. Guys at reception are really nice and helpful. We snorkeled right in front of the apartment and saw turtles and rays. Good place for relaxing and swimming. You have everything you need (even a small shop really close). 100% recommended.

Nos gusta mucho volver a Half Moon bay. Es tranquilo, el lugar bellisimo, el mar invita a hacer snorkelling todo el tiempo por la cantidad de corales estando tan cerca de la barrera. El condo esta muy bien, espacioso, limpio, la atencion estupenda. Solo podria pedir que se limpiara la playa de sargasso mas temprano como lo hacen otros condos

We stayed in this condo just after Thanksgiving. It was perfect! The daily maid service was great, and the staff is so friendly. The beach was beautiful, even with a touch of seaweed. We went through two five gallon jugs of water, each time we were low, our housekeeper would request a new jug. The kitchen was perfect for us, only staying for a week. We walked to La buena vida for dinner a couple of times, and to Yal Ku, where we swam with thousands of sardines! Can't wait to come back.

Had a great first time in Mexico, in this beautiful clean beach condo. This condo was right on the water, where you can snorkle and watch turtles come out of the water. The bedrooms were always kept clean, and the AC worked very well in the hot times of the day. Will defiantly make another trip to Turtle Bay again.

Unit 5, tastefully decorated, clean and comfortable unit. Easy walking distance to La Buena Vida Restaurant and a short hike to the main entrance to Akumal. 

Fully furnished with everything you need. One very comfortable King bed with second bedroom having one double and one twin. Reception was very accomodating! TV reception was in and out but who cares!

We stayed in #5 and found it to be exactly as promised in the pictures and descriptions: a casual, very pleasant place, up on the third floor, overlooking a beautiful bay with multiple shades of blues and turquoises, hard working, friendly staff (thank you for the clean room -- hard to do with the sand, and thank you for the coconuts!!). The wind blew strongly much of the time we were there (short visit), so the temperatures were easy to take at night (only tried the bedroom ac once). Akumal is a small place, right now, but growing fast - probably not good for the environment or the small place experience that we enjoyed. Our trip was brief but beautiful, and this place really was terrific. (and yes, we did have the luck to see a turtle swimming right in front of the place).

This is a sweet location. We were there over X mas and the beach was pretty unpopulated. Snorkeling is great if you are willing to go out about 200 - 300 yards (the water remains fairly shallow, warm, calm, and is clearer that far out). I saw all sorts of fish and a stingray! Accommodations are more than sufficient with abundant seating, full kitchen, and 3 beds. My only regrets are 1.) stated there was a hair dryer and there was not one and 2.) beds and bed pillows were way too firm. Even when I used a platform bed, I have never stayed on such hard mattresses. // If you have been to AKUMAL before, expect it to be much bigger and it has lost its authenticity trying to meet tourists needs while also trying to protect the turtles and their nesting areas. On the street where this condo is there are lots of options for getting some good food, some live music, and some good drinks while taking in the view. All in all - a great place.

Very clean, an amazing view on the sea. 2 big bedrooms, a nice restaurant 5 Min walking distance. But, there were so many sargassum elk on the beach and the sea, it was disappointing.

As far as the seaweed goes, this has been an ongoing topic and many efforts have been implemented by residents and HOA. Wonderful 2 weeks in peace and quiet. No kids yelling, no volleyball on the beach or loud music...nothing to disturb the wonderful sound of waves and the wishhhhh of palm trees in the wind. We loved every minute and felt it was rejuvenating and mind restoring. We hope Half Moon Bay stays this way.
The only con and the reason for four stars and not five, is the king bed mattress needs to be replaced. One side is softer than the other and I found myself embedded in the morning. I exchanged sides with my husband and the other side is still too soft.
Other than that this condo was perfect for us, the whole staff was lovely and helpful. Convenient location to everything. We would love to go back.

We continue to come back year after year because we enjoy the accommodations and the area immensely. The condo is kept clean, we have orioles and warblers in the palm trees off the veranda, we can see turtles and stingrays from the porch and the snorkeling is superb. Throw in some Mayan ruins, the Carribean blue of the water and the sound of rolling rocks on the shore and what more could you want?

Akumal definitely exudes more of an ex-pat versus "authentico" feel, but our family agreed it is the perfect base for a trip to QRoo. The clear and still waters of Akumal Beach lapping up onto the white sand are amazing, as are the shallow snorkeling wonders of Half Moon Bay. And the food! Not nearly enough time to sample all of the exceptional restaurants. Our Akumal favorites were La Lunita (never has grouper been prepared so well as on their Christmas Eve menu & they also win best margarita in Akumal), Turtle Bay Bakery (sticky buns!), Lol Ha (our favorite guacamole on this trip), and Que Onde. As for our condo, a few of the pluses at Luna Azul #5: Location! Sunrise! Clear ocean! Kitchen! Hot water showers! Comfortable beds in spacious rooms! Great restaurants nearby! What I would add if I owned #5: A comfortable chair or two for reading. Improved guest suggestion book with restaurant menus, more detailed recommendations of how-to's, and insider tips. More small rugs. Hints on how to get rid of ants (ouch!). Maps of the area, even if a large wall map. Overall, a lovely place and we were very happy to spend Christmas with our family in Akumal!

This spot was a perfect location complimented by incredible guest management. I wanted a relaxing location where I could spend all day looking and hearing the sounds of the ocean. I got this and so much more. We went snorkeling, rented a golf cart to drive into the little village, and swam/hiked in an underground cave. The nearby restaurants served tasty food. But what stood out was how helpful all of the staff was to help us navigate our trip, get taxi's and transportation, correct our mishaps (lost the key to the golf cart), and be pleasant all the time. The maintenance team kept the place spotless. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect location and experience. Just what I needed & wanted. Thank you.

Before deciding on Unit#5, I did a lot of research. I had preferred a condo with a pool, but this unit and price was perfect. The unit is beautiful and the view and sound of the ocean is unmatched. We were able to walk to a little store, to La Buena Vida and La Lunita. It's located walking distance to the most amazing snorkeling of Yal-Ku Lagoon. We also went to Xel-Ha, Xpu-Ha and the monkey sanctuary. All VERY close. Went to Lol-Ha and listened to a band. Swam with the turtles and went to Puerto Aventuras and Playa Del Carmen. Everything close and easy. The office staff and cleaning staff were wonderful. We rented a car and that was our only initial difficulty(nothing to do with this rental unit) Do NOT use or any other at the airport. After America Rental Cars failed to pick us up at the airport, we called Yes Rental Cars. They provided amazing service for a total of 7 days with insurance and taxes for $315. The night before our trip to Xel-Ha, the car was acting up. I called at 10:00pm and they dropped off an upgraded car by 8:00am the next morning. You definitely need water shoes for most swimming. Miss being there already.

Everything was perfect in the apartment. Comfy bed, great view, and the apartment has everything you need to enjoy your time at the beach. The staff was also incredible and so kind and helpful. 10/10

We enjoyed our stay in Akumal. The house was great and looks exactly as shown in the photos. Location is good and near La Buena Vida restaurant and a small market. The staff at the office is very friendly and helpful. The house was very clean, kitchen had everything you need, SmartTV in each bedroom, and blow dryers were available on both bathrooms. I would recommend renting a golf cart as we used it daily to go into the main part of town for breakfast and or dinner. Our only complaint is the beds could be more comfortable in the guest bedroom. We absolutely loved Akumal.

A friend and i stayed at Luna Azul for 8 days. It is the perfect place to chill and enjoy lovely weather, crystal clear water and Mexican hospitality. We asked our maid to only come every other day - though she was supposed to come daily - and she did a fabulous job cleaning.
Everyone was so friendly and helpful.
Restaurants La Buena Vida and La Lunita are minutes away by foot and offer really tasty food at affordable prices.
All service workers wear masks and hand sanitizers/ temp taking are offered at most restaurants.
The Midway convenience store across from our villa had all the essentials st better prices than the Chomak in town and the chica working there was helpful and very accommodating.
Our only complaint was that taxi prices were inconsistent - we were told a taxi from our villa to Akumal Pueblo would be $10 US (by the guys in the office). We were actually charged $12 one way and $15 the other . When we questioned this (I am fluent in Spanish) they shrugged and basically said “That’s what I charge”, unfortunately making us feel we were being taken advantage of. Another couple staying at Luna Azul said they only paid $7 for the same trip.
Also - the communication I got from Locogringonsaid that the Covid test would be about $17 when it was in fact $44 ��
Overall, a very satisfactory experience. I had been to Luna Azul about 20 years ago and found that particular stretch of beach pretty much unchanged and as lovely as ever.
We didn’t want to travel much outside the resort because of Covid, but I would recommend renting a car if you’re going to spend more than a few days. Akumal is about a mile walk along brick-paved streets and you probably don’t want to do that every day. Akumal Pueblo on the other side of the highway seems impossible to get to without a car. And of course there are so many wonderful ruins, cenotes, and colonial towns to visit as well.

It was a very beautiful place to stay, well designed and maintained. Being in the front room, we felt like we were outside! It is right on the beach with gorgeous views. The ocean was fabulous! It’s a little rocky getting in and out, water shoes were a must. We appreciated the privacy. It was very clean and well-appointed. David, the concierge, was available and very helpful. We loved our stay!

We were awestruck by the beautiful sunrises, the gentle waves breaking on our private beach and the balmy weather in December. There were several wondeful restaurants in the area and terrific snorkeling. Esp4ecially liked the lagoon about half a mile away. I would definitely recommend this condo and would go again. The only negative we found was the access road. It was hard to negotiate, but was being worked on so perhaps is better by now. Too many pot holes!

As usual I had a great stay in Akumal. I stayed at both Luna Azul & The Reef condos. I have been going to Akumal for the last 20 years. Although it's getting to be more known, it's still the best kept secret south of Cancun.

The space is open, cheery, well laid out, and has a wonderful ocean view. It comfortably accommodated dinners for 11 (our family staying elsewhere). A nice breeze flows through the unit, and the sound of waves is lovely. The staff was professional and helpful. Other guests were unnecessarily territorial about the limited beach lounges, which was unpleasant. Overall, we would highly recommend the place.

This was our second stay in Akumal and second stay at Luna Azul. Everything was WONDERFUL! The staff is so helpful. Jorge at Luna Azul was there when I needed him and extra helpful with anything we (about 14 of us at Luna Azul) needed. We will be back. Marieke was also wonderful. She picked up where Leslie left off and was absolutely amazing. The entire staff is probably the best of any place that I have visited.

Great place for a family vacation. It's quiet, but not too secluded. Plenty of services nearby. Good snorkeling just outside the door in the bay. Plus the lagoon is just a short walk away. The Mayan ruins of Coba and Tulum are each a fun day trip. (Just arrive early to avoid the crowds and heat.) The only minor problem was having to open the south window in the living room in order to get internet connection.
