At a Glance

This cheerful ground-level studio provides a simple, comfortable stay in Playa Caribe. With two double beds, a private bath, and kitchenette, Studio Maria offers both convenience and access to beachfront amenities, including a pool, BBQ, and daily housekeeping.

Inside the Residence

Studio Maria is a compact, welcoming retreat designed for couples or small families. Two double beds anchor the sleeping area, and the studio includes a private bathroom with shower. Air conditioning keeps the space cool and comfortable throughout the day. The kitchenette is equipped for light cooking, with all the essentials for quick meals or snacks.

Though the unit overlooks the quiet street side of Playa Caribe, guests enjoy the same premium amenities as those in oceanfront suites. Large windows allow natural light to brighten the interior, while thoughtful décor makes the space both functional and inviting.

Access & Amenities

Included in your stay are daily housekeeping, concierge services, purified water, and beach towels. Guests share an oceanfront swimming pool, loungers, BBQ, outdoor shower, and hanging gardens. Parking is available on-site.

About the Surroundings 

Half Moon Bay is a calm, residential enclave known for snorkeling and beach strolls. Cafes, restaurants, and Yal Ku Lagoon are within walking distance. To explore further—such as cenotes, ruins, or nearby towns—a rental car or driver is best, as public transport is 2 miles away.

This is a streetview studio without direct ocean views, but guests enjoy the same beachfront perks. Half Moon Bay has rocky patches; water shoes are suggested for safe swimming. Daily housekeeping service is provided. Parking, beach towels, and purified water are provided.

KINDLY NOTE: South winds may bring Sargasso Seaweed to some beaches throughout the Caribbean, including the Rivera Maya. While the situation is hard to predict for each specific week and area, we would like you to be aware as there is the potential to impact the beach and water entry.

The Riviera Maya is full of natural beauty, places to explore and opportunities for outdoor activities. We have a great list of activities and adventures completely unaffected by the arrival of sargasso that we would love to share with you. There is so much to see and do in this special place, we know that you will have an amazing and memorable vacation!

El depa está pequeño pero es muy bonito, la zona común de la alberca está padre, si no hubiera sargazo estaría perfecto, el guardia nocturno es súper amable y muy servicial en todo momento que lo requeríamos estaba a la orden.. cuentan con servicio de limpieza excelente.. lo recomiendo

The people are wonderful. The place is sweet but there are no windows. That would normally be a deal breaker for me. Some people may not care. Outdoor spaces are terrific so I tried to be outside all the time. Otherwise casita is well decorated and has everything and is really well run.

Everything you need is already supplied!! Daily maid service if you want. Beach is very close. Just turn lef out of the door and go up the stairs. Right there!! Pool was clean and plenty of chairs on the beach. Highly recommend!!

We are so happy we were able to stay at Casita Maria! It was so charming, and the location was unbelievable! Right on the beach in Half Moon Bay! Beautiful, and great snorkeling too. We saw stingrays, turtles, and a lot of fish! We loved it! And there was no sargassum. The beach was perfect!!! For the price, this little gem is fantastic! It's not huge... it's like a hotel room with a bonus kitchen. Everything worked great, and it was nice and clean. Patricia did a wonderful job cleaning our room each day. Augustin was very nice, although we didn't talk to him much because we didn't have any issues. I definitely recommend a stay at charming little Casita Maria! Oh, and don't forget to use the dehumidifier in the corner of the room. It made a huge difference (we didn't realize it was there until halfway through our trip). Thanks for a great place to stay, Chris and Polly!

Casita Maria is a great place for a quiet getaway. The unit is private, but only a short walk from the pool. Chris & Polly were very quick to answer all of my questions about the casita. The unit had all the supplies I needed, including a cooler that I used for a day trip. There's a great restaurant just down the street and a convenience store just across the way. I had a rental car and the building has plenty of reserved parking.

We enjoyed our long weekend in Akumal at Casita Maria! Location is perfect for exploring - walkable to all restaurants and activities. Having access to the pool was perfect. The Casita has everything needed for a very comfortable stay. The air conditioning unit is amazing. The bathroom is nicely updated and has plenty of space. We have a close friend that lives in the area year round and we will be back to visit and plan to stay at Casita Maria in the future. Perfect Stay!

We just spent 4 nights at this Casita. It's very clean and well maintained. Close proximity to a small store that has all essentials and a nice snorkel shop. Also very close to La Buena Vida, a great little restaurant/beach hangout. The kitchenette is well-stocked, the pool is nice, and the staff at Playa Caribe is very friendly. The only reason I'm not giving this 5 stars is due to THE SEAWEED. There are literally 3 foot mounds of SEAWEED on the beach all along Half Moon Bay. It's especially bad directly in front of the complex in which this casita is located (Playa Caribe). Playa Caribe's beach is basically the width of a beach lounger plus about two feet of sand - and then massive amounts of SEAWEED block your entrance to the ocean. I realize this is not within the control of the owners and that there are people working to remove the seaweed from the beach almost every day. We also still really enjoyed our stay. However, I just wish I had known about the seaweed prior to booking this place. It really is pretty overwhelming. You are still able to walk down the beach either direction and access the water, but had it been crowded, we would have been stuck in lounge chairs with our feet about two feet from the mounds of seaweed. It's kind of sad. Otherwise, this is an absolutely top notch little getaway.

This is our second time at Casita Maria in Akumal, and we couldn't be more satisfied. The room is like a hotel room with an additional small kitchen, but the real selling point of this place is the pool which is right on the bay. The service is great, the room is clean, and there's a newly renovated bathroom. For the price, it's hard to beat this little place.

We always vrbo when we travel and have stayed in many places but I have to say that Playa Caribe has the best and most responsive management of anywhere we have stayed. Augustin will help you figure out anything you need or have questions about. It is a very well kept condo complex and Casita Maria was spotless and welcoming. My husband, daughter and I stayed and while staying in a studio can be a bit confining the fact is that we never ate inside once. We made meals and ate them all out on the deck by the pool looking at half moon bay. Half Moon bay and Akumal Bay are great place to be introduced to snorkeling. We are divers but our 10 year old snorkeled for the first time and saw turtles, fish everything. What a great first experience. Akumal is easy and safe to walk and bike everywhere. We really enjoyed our stay at Casita Maria. Very clean, comfortable beds and a good location, about 15 minute walk to town. Nice to have a small grocery store across the street. Augusta, the front desk Manager was very helpful. Yal Ku is walking distance and we would highly recommend a trip there if you like to snorkel, the sea was pretty rough in front of the complex during the time we were there. Great home base to explore the area.

We rented Studio Maria to get extra space while more family members joined us to stay in Playa Caribbean unit #6. That proved to be a great plan. The studio was just right for sleeping, dressing, etc. With the small kitchenette, it also would serve as a budget approach to gaining access to this Half Moon Bay location. The unit was immaculate, wifi was adequate, location was great as usual.

The location was very quite at least in late February when we spent a week there. The walk to "downtown" Akumal took maybe 20-25 minutes of brisk walking, so not super close by but ok. We were a little disappointed that there were not that many restaurants nearby - two restaurants within ~5 minute walking distance and a maybe 2-4 others in downtown Akumal. Akumal was really quite during the evening times - it seems that people spend time in their resorts and condos and as a result there was not much things to do or see in the evening outside of the hotel. No street food vendors etc which would have been nice if you are not staying in an all inclusive resort.

The accommodation itself was very clean and nice. A big plus to the fact that drinking water was provided free of charge as much as you needed, so you avoid the extra hassle of buying and carrying water. The room was relatively small with no windows, but ok for four persons as there were closets where you can put you luggage into. The kitchen was very well equipped!

The hotel pool was very small and there was space for maybe six sunbeds at the pool area. This was not a problem during our stay as our family was most of the time only ones there. The same goes for the beach; there were only maybe ten sunbeds in the hotel's beach area which was quite tiny. The strip of sand between the hotel stairs and the sea was very narrow, only a few meters. The beach in front of the hotel (Half Moon Bay) was very calm, quite, and nice. The Akumal beach however was very crowded and busy - we were also disappointed by the fact that you have to pay to enter that beach, i.e. no public beach access in Akumal.

Overall I recommend this accommodation and Akumal if you are looking for a quite place to relax. Akumal is nicely located between Playa del Carmen and Tulum, and it was really easy to go there by Colectivo, a local minivan/bus service which was very cheap and convenient.

The location was perfect for our 2 grandchildren. The could exit the condo and choose to jump in the pool or play in the big sandbox-both right outside our patio door. They loved going to Midway Store right across the back of the condo.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Playa Caribe, we left PA with rain and cool temps, and received sunshine and warm temps in Akumal. As we have been coming to the area since 2005, we knew what to expect and how to get around. Yes, things are changing, the climate for one and the amount of tourists. But if you want to enjoy some quieter times and a number of good eating places all within walking or biking distance, give this place a try, you won't be disappointed.

We stayed at Casita Maria due to budget. Next time an ocean view. Well kept property walkable to town. Don't take taxi's, colectivo is safe, cheap and fast for Tulum or Playa del Carmem adventures.

The room was perfect! Everything we needed was supplied in the kitchen and even some treats and coffee were bought for us. The A/C worked great and it was very comfortable. The service was very good and everything we asked about was communicated perfectly. We will definitely stay again. Hopefully next time up on a higher floor to see the beautiful views. The pool area was clean and water was perfect.

We had a wonderful time! I am a teacher and I spent my spring break at the condo. I love that it is on the beach and has a private pool. The room was clean and everyone was very friendly.

I love my condo building, my casita, my friends and every moment I am blessed to be in Akumal Mexico. My casita is perfect and perfectly located. Everything is within walking distance and the options are only limited by what you chose to ask for, or not.

Second time here - always a great stay. Spotless condo and outdoor areas maintained - pool area was great
